National Park Bins at 500 Bourke Street
500 Bourke is positioned as a workplace precinct that reimagines a sustainable city destination. The building has undergone a significant transformation led by ISPT, with a strong focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.
It is within this context that Source Separation Systems‘ National Park Units now take pride of place — welcoming visitors with a bold visual commitment to sustainability.
The National Park Bin is a durable stainless steel solution, designed and manufactured by our expert team in Newcastle. The stations are designed to be customised to suit site-specific requirements and sustainability goals of each site. It offers an outcome that not only performs functionally but also complements the surrounding landscape and built environment, where durability, weather resistance and visual presentation are equally important.
This installation features a three-stream configuration — landfill, organics and recycling. Bright powder-coated finishes and vinyl signage create a clear and intuitive system that supports correct use. Strong colour differentiation ensures immediate recognition, while the open, accessible design reduces friction at the point of disposal. This is particularly important in outdoor environments where users are often moving through the space rather than stopping to engage. The concave waste stream further supports this behaviour, acting as a default option where users choose not to separate.
From a materials perspective, the units are built to withstand ongoing exposure to the elements, with robust stainless steel construction and protective finishes that maintain appearance over time. The curved hood design provides additional weather protection while contributing to a clean, considered aesthetic.
Designed with longevity in mind, components can be replaced if damaged, and units can be refurbished at end of life — significantly extending the lifecycle of the infrastructure.
The result is a system that balances durability with presentation, supporting improved waste separation outcomes while aligning with the overall look and feel of the site.
