Hybrid Kitchen Caddy

As councils embrace Food Organics, Garden Organics (FOGO) programs all over Australia, there is much debate about the optimal Caddy. Vented Caddies have been the predominant FOGO solution in South Australia for years, however in other states the convenience of the Solid Caddy has made it a more popular solution.

Our team have been involved in FOGO Projects for over 10 years, and the truth is that in such a uniquely diverse country it would be illogical to think that the same solution for food waste would suit a family living in the lush mountain regions of Tasmania, compared to the sandy shores of the Sunshine Coast. As such, the ability to customise a solution, and ensure it is fit for purpose, is essential.

The Hybrid Caddy provides this customisation. Whilst maintaining many of the core features including our important in-mould educational label, this solution leverages the modular nature of the caddy design, allowing flexibility to choose either a Solid or Vented Option for both the Lid and Base.

This Hybrid Caddy is specifically designed, printed and manufactured in Australia, for Australian families.

Designed by industry experts, this Caddy integrates several proven features including the important customisable educational in-mould label, which provides full colour instructions every time the Caddy is used, as well as the flexible lid design, sturdy handle and convenient 7 Litre capacity.

A modular design, the Base and Lid are both available in a Solid or Vented option.

The Solid Base and Vented Lid provides a convenient solution, which offers the advantages of some aeration. The solid base eliminates leakage and can still be used when Compost-A-Pak® Liners are not provided. The ventilation holes on the lid are designed to restrict fruit flies, yet allow air to circulate around the food scraps, and so evaporation can escape, minimising odours.

In contrast the Vented Base and Solid Lid option increases aeration around the breathable Compost-A-Pak® Liners, allowing moisture to escape, minimising condensation and odours. The base features full length aeration slots on all four sides providing about 70 per cent aeration on each face. The unique base also includes a significant proportion of vents, recessed into the Caddy. As a result, the liner sits off the bench and any moisture tends to be held within the liquid capture wells formed, reducing the risk of leaks. The base rib of the caddy is also uniquely arched to optimise ventilation. The Solid Lid provides an effective seal, which contains the food scraps within the Compost-A-Pak® bags.

Reflecting our team’s commitment to the circular economy, all components can be manufactured from up to 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Content, usually collected from the contents of council roadside collection bins. The standard option currently includes approximately 80% Post-Consumer Recycled Content.

In Australia, approximately half of household waste is organic. As such, a successful council organics diversion program can have a significant impact in reducing community landfill rates.

Compostables Caddy

Organics

Over half of the average Australian household’s waste is food waste. In fact, the average family throws out approximately 1 of every 5 bags of food they purchase. Diverting this waste from landfill to either home composters or commercial composting facilities can have significant environmental benefits, with the resulting nutrients from food breaking down into compost, which can be used to nourish the soil for future crops or community gardens.

Alternatively, when such precious organic matter is simply thrown away with other mixed waste, the resulting Landfill sites can emit air pollution including methane gas which is linked to global warming, as well as causing soil and water pollution impacting on local plants and animals.

Our Caddy system is proven successful in supporting the communities to divert their food waste to be composted. Aeration minimises smells by allowing condensation to escape, and the convenient in-mould label provides helpful instructions for use. It’s simply recycling designed by nature.
