Compost-A-Pak® Shopping Bags are the sustainable alternative which will differentiate your business, and have customers talking well after they have left!
These non-woven bags provide the same convenience as a reusable plastic ‘green’ bag, however that’s where the similarities end.
Plastic ‘green’ bags are usually made of thicker polypropylene, a fossil-fuel based plastic, so they actually take more non-renewable material to manufacture and longer to breakdown than single use plastics. Compost-A-Pak® bags are instead made predominantly of third grade corn, a waste product which is traditionally left by farmers to rot as it is unsuitable for human or animal consumption. A non-woven material, these bags are not only much more sustainable to produce, at end of life they are designed to be thrown out with food waste for composting.
Australian Certified for commercial composting, you can be confident these bags are completely plastic free and will breakdown just as nature intended.
Compost-A-Pak® is proudly an Australian family owned business. Since 2007 we have been assisting businesses with the simple transition to a more sustainable option.
Our manufacturing processes are driven by our passion for sustainability.
All Compost-A-Pak® products are made from a natural starch-based polymer derived from corn. We choose corn, as it is an annually renewable crop, unlike trees, which can take years to grow. The actual crops are sourced from international GMO-free regions with high levels of rain, to minimise irrigation, and the corn selected is third grade corn. This is basically spoilt corn, a waste product traditionally left by farmers to rot, that is not suitable for human or animal consumption.
Using purpose built biodegradable resin extruders, a resin is extracted from the combination of corn starch, biodegradable ingredients and some propriety elements. We are extremely proud that through re-engineering this purpose-built equipment, our liners are made with significantly less electricity consumption, compared to manufacturing on conventional extrusion equipment.
Whilst most of our range are blown film bags, the Shopping Bag is a thicker non-woven material, stitched together with cotton and printed with soy-based inks. The print clearly differentiates our bags as a sustainable alternative, with the Certification logos, and environmental messages. They have a recommended shelf life of twelve months.
Most importantly Compost-A-Pak® Shopping Bags are Certified Compostable to the stricter Australian standards for commercial composting (AS4736), as well as the relevant European, American and Japanese standards.
In the same way as vegetable scraps, the products in their entirety will break down into humus, water and carbon dioxide in a commercial composting facility in a matter of weeks. These certifications ensure you can be confident there will be no harmful residue as the liners break down. In fact, the bags are also safe for use in organic farms, food contact, animal feed and can also be also used in worm farms.
